Frequently asked questions about Tyres from Narangba Valley Tyres & Mechanical

What should your tyre pressure be on your vehicle?

The answer lies in your car owner's manual or on the placard inside the drivers door frame. There, you will find information about the recommended tyre pressure for your car. This information is crucial, as it takes into account the car's make and model and the tyres size.

It's essential to check your tyre pressure at least once a month to ensure they're neither over or under-inflated. This is crucial because both situations can result in damage to your tyres, affect your car's fuel economy, and compromise your vehicle's safety on the road.

Narangba Valley Tyres & Mechanical does not recommend you driving with under inflated tyres as they can easily overheat and blow out.

And if you are towing a load this will also affect the amount of pressure you need. Usually you will need more. Narangba Valley Tyres & Mechanical can advise you on this detail.

What is the minimum tyre tread depth?

When it comes to road safety, one thing that often goes overlooked is the tread depth of our tyres. In Australia, the minimum legal tread depth is 1.5mm, and it is important to ensure that our tyres meet this requirement to avoid the risk of accidents and fines.

To check the tread depth of your tyres, look for the tread wear indicator bars located in the grooves of the tyre tread. These bars run across the tread and appear when the tyre has worn down to 1.5mm. This can be difficult to see at home, so visit Narangba Valley Tyres & Mechanical for an accurate inspection.

When should I get a wheel alignment done?

There are several factors than can indicate you need a wheel alignment like:

  • Uneven tyre wear or scalloping
  • Car is pulling to one side
  • Steering and handling change

A good rule of thumb is to have your vehicle's wheel alignment checked with every service - which is exactly what we do as part of our Full and Log Book Servicing procedures or whenever you notice the above. Not having your wheels properly aligned can result in uneven tyre wear, reduced fuel efficiency, and poor handling on the road. A wheel alignment helps to ensure that your car's wheels are pointing in the right direction and are parallel to each other, making for a smoother ride, longer-lasting tyres, and better overall vehicle performance.

What are the benefits of tyre rotations?

You may not realise it but regular tyre rotation can prolong the life of your tyres. Your Front tyres (on a front wheel drive vehicle) will wear more along their edges due to turning, however the rear tyres just follow. By rotating your tyres, you're ensuring even wear and tear, which helps to maintain traction and prevent skidding (aquaplaning) on wet or icy roads. Plus, rotating your tyres can also improve your vehicle's fuel efficiency by reducing rolling resistance.

Also, mud terrain or other non standard 'Work' tyres may require more frequent tyre rotation.
